I heard that Air BnB is paying the Hotel Tax on my behalf; is this true?
Answer:
AirBnB and similar booking agents do have agreements with the state of PA and as of March 2019 there is also an agreement with Monroe County. So, if you rent through a booking agent who is collecting and submitting payment on your behalf, that is fine. Monroe County still requires that individual tax certificates be obtained for the short-term rental property under the owner's name. Also, quarterly reporting to Monroe County is required and this is your responsibility. Go to www.monroecountypa.gov/Dept/Tresurer/Pages/HotelTax.aspx for more information.
I understand an inspection is part of the process; when does that happen?
Answer:
When all required documents have been received, found acceptable and fee paid, the inspection can take place. We will provide you with instructions to schedule the inspection. Your permit is issued shortly after the inspection passes. By the way, up to two inspections are included with your initial application $750 payment. If additional inspections are necessary, there will be a fee of $70 per inspection.
